The Luksic Visiting Scholars Program at Stanford’s Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) is an opportunity for academics or professors from any academic discipline to spend four months at Stanford University. While on campus, Luksic Visiting Scholars will have access to a wide array of experts, libraries, and other archives to conduct their research.

Up to two Visiting Scholars from Chilean institutions are named. If the research proposals allow, it is encouraged for both Scholars to arrive at Stanford on a similar date to encourage cohort dynamics.

Eligibility: Preference is given to Chilean nationals or residents working at Chilean institutions. However, academics working abroad (outside Chile) at Chilean institutions are eligible to apply. Applicants must hold a doctorate and a current academic appointment at a university or research institution. Independent scholars may request to have this requirement waived based on their professional trajectory.

Academics can be from any scientific discipline or academic field. Applicants must explain how they will engage in research at Stanford University during the program. Those who provide information on how their research experience at Stanford can benefit their institution’s or Chile’s development will be prioritized. Women and researchers from regional institutions in Chile are especially encouraged to apply.

Duration: One-quarter of four months. Scholars can begin their four-month research period in September, January, or April to coincide with the Fall, Winter, and Spring/ Quarters at Stanford.

Program support: The Luksic Visiting Scholars Program provides the selected academic with a complete compensation package which includes an allowance, housing support, transportation support, and library access.

Application process & requirements: All interested candidates must apply directly to Stanford CLAS. Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are open and will close on January 31, 2025, at 11:59 pm (Pacific Daylight Time). The application requirements are outlined below, however, please visit the Stanford CLAS for more details:

  • Statement of Purpose: A brief proposal (one to two pages) explaining in detail the reason of interest in becoming a LVSF at CLAS, elaborating on the line of research to follow while associated with the Stanford University. Proposals should state how the proposed research benefits from Stanford’s unique resources such as libraries, faculty, and academic programs.
  • Letter of Sponsorship or List of Faculty: nomination endorsement by a Stanford University faculty member, either affiliated or not affiliated to CLAS, or instead of the letter of endorsement, applicants may submit a list of two to three Stanford faculty members and their Department with whom they would like to collaborate or associate.
  • Letter of Recommendation: nomination endorsement from the nominee’s institution, preferably from a Dean or Chair.
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Evidence of English proficiency

Selection process: The selection process is competitive based on professional trajectory and the quality of the proposed research plan. A Selection Panel established by CLAS and without the participation of the Luksic Foundation will make all selection and awarding decisions.

The Luksic Scholarship for Public Service at the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government has been established to support the creation of trained leaders and experts with a public vocation, based on specific competencies and experiences that allow individuals to generate change in their professional environment.

The Blavatnik School’s vision is of a world better led, a world better served and a world better governed. They are a global school committed to improving the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide.

A total of 3 Scholarships are available for Chilean candidates who are accepted onto the School’s Master of Public Policy (MPP) program. This degree, taught by academics as well as expert practitioners, is a transformative opportunity for current and future leaders to study with world-class faculty, to learn how policy is made, and to sharpen analytical, decision-making and implementation skills. Interested candidates must apply to the School and receive an offer of admission for the MPP in order to be considered for the Luksic Scholarship.

Program Duration: 1 year (start: September – end: November of the following year – depending on the completion of the Summer Project). Find more information about the program structure on the School’s MPP page.

Program Application Dates: Individuals who wish to apply to the Master of Public Policy degree at the University of Oxford and plan to request financial aid, must apply directly to Oxford via their application process. Applications for the 2025-2026 are open until January 9, 2025, at 12:00 midday UK time.

Scholarship Coverage: The Luksic Scholarship is a comprehensive funding package that provides full tuition coverage and a stipend based on a cost of living analysis to cover living expenses for the entire program duration (1 year). It also includes a one-off payment once Scholars register for their classes at Oxford to retroactively cover the costs involved in arriving and installing themselves in Oxford (i.e. flight costs, accommodation deposits, etc.).

Scholarship Eligibility: Offer holders who are Chilean nationals (ordinarily resident in Chile). Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in social and public policy challenges in Chile and a strong commitment to public service.

Scholarship Application (via Oxford): Individuals who receive an admissions offer to study the MPP program are required to complete and submit a Scholarship Questionnaire provided by the Blavatnik School of Government in order to be considered for the Luksic Scholarship. The School exclusively manages the application, selection, and allocation of funding via their own protocols without any participation of the Luksic Foundation. The Luksic Scholarship for Public Service at the London School of Economics for a Master’s of Public Policy (MPP) has been established to support the creation of trained leaders and experts with a public vocation, based on specific competencies and experiences that allow individuals to generate change in their professional environment.

The School of Public Policy’s mission acknowledges the history of public policy and public service that has been at the heart of LSE since its inception, which was in the year 1895.

A total of 2 Scholarships are available for Chilean candidates who are accepted onto the MPP program at LSE. This degree enables students to take a short career break to join an experienced global cohort, gain new perspectives and develop an understanding of the “craft of government”. This integrates theory and analysis, politics, and implementation of policy.

Program Duration: 9 months.

Program Location: London, United Kingdom.

Applicant Characteristics and Eligibility: Upper second-class honors (2:1) degree or equivalent in any discipline. In addition, applicants must have at least five years of policy-relevant experience, though exceptions may be granted for outstanding candidates with slightly less experience. For eligibility requirements, please refer to LSE’s MPP program page.

Application Dates for the MPP Program & the Luksic Scholarship (via LSE): Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are open. It also includes a one-off payment once Scholars register for their classes at LSE to retroactively cover the costs involved in arriving and installing themselves in London (i.e. flight costs, accommodation deposits, NHS surcharge etc.).

Scholarship Eligibility: The Luksic Scholarship is available for Chilean applicants who demonstrate:

  • a commitment to public service in the applicant’s future career with a compelling rationale for choosing this vocation; and
  • their potential to become a future expert and leader in their field, and thereby to generate positive change for Chile; and
  • previous academic excellence, evidenced by grades from previous university study and supported by references from previous professors

Preference may be given to those applicants who can demonstrate a professional background, or other experiences, that strongly suggest potential for innovation and original thinking coupled with demonstrated success. Preference will be given to those applicants who, without a Luksic Scholarship would otherwise lack the financial means to study at the LSE School of Public Policy. The awarding process will seek to balance applicants from different regional areas of Chile.

The Luksic Scholarship for Public Service at Sciences Po has been established to support the creation of trained leaders and experts with a public vocation, based on specific competencies and experiences that allow individuals to generate change in their professional environment.

Sciences Po’s overarching mission is to educate future leaders in the public and private sectors. Curious and open-minded, Sciences Po graduates, regardless of their focus and trajectory, all share the ability to “learn how to learn,” which is one of the priorities of the University’s education.

A total of 3 Scholarships are available for Chilean candidates who are accepted into any of the following two-year Master’s programs at Sciences Po:

  • School of Public Affairs: Master of Public Affairs, Master of Public Policy, Master of European Affairs.
  • Paris School of International Affairs: Master in International Governance and Diplomacy, Master in International Economic Policy, Master in International Development, Master in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action, Master in Environmental Policy, Master in International Energy, and Master in International Security.

The Luksic Scholarship for Master’s programs at Sciences Po was originally established in 2021 through a collaboration between Sciences Po and Quiñenco S.A., the Luksic Group’s industrial and financial holding company. In April 2022, the Luksic Scholars Foundation became the coordinating entity of the Scholarships, renewing the agreement, now under the name “The Luksic Scholarship at Sciences Po.” Source.

MIT Political Science Luksic Fellowship

In 2010, following a donation from Andrónico Luksic Craig to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the endowed “Andrónico Luksic Fellowship” was established. This Fund contributes to the comprehensive funding package that MIT offers all candidates on the Doctorate of Political Sciences program at the Department of Political Science. The Fellowship is granted to one candidate from Chile each year. The Luksic Foundation is now the coordinating entity on behalf of the donor.

The merit-based funding package includes 6 consecutive years of full tuition and health insurance coverage, plus a 12-month stipend in years 1-5 and a 9-month stipend in year 6, provided students remain in good academic standing. Funding consists of a combination of fellowships, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships.

The doctoral students at MIT explore the empirical phenomena that produce new scholarly insights—insights that MIT believes improve the way governments and societies function. More specifically, the program requires preparation in two of the following major fields: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Models and Methods, Political Economy, or Security Studies.

Program characteristics:

  • Duration: 12 semesters (approx. 6 years).
  • Required classes include statistics, empirical research methods, political philosophy, and a second-year paper workshop.
  • General exams in two subfields (one combined oral and two written) and a doctoral thesis.

The Luksic Fellowship of the Schwarzman Scholars program is an annual funding designation for one Chilean candidate for the Master’s program at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University. This program was created to respond to the international landscape of the 21st century, under the belief that the success of future leaders around the world depends upon an understanding of China’s role in global trends.

Schwarzman Scholars supports up to 200 Scholars annually from the U.S., China, and around the world to study a one-year Master’s in Global Affairs at Beijing’s Tsinghua University — ranked first in Asia as an indispensable base for China’s political, business, and technological leadership. Candidates chosen for this highly selective program live in Beijing for a year of study and cultural immersion.

Funding: All participants receive a full funding package that includes: tuition & fees, room & board, an in-country study tour, travel to and from Beijing, health insurance, and a stipend for personal expenses. The admissions process, which opened for the first time in 2015 to outstanding success, is run exclusively by Schwarzman College.

Eligibility: Applicants are evaluated on three key factors: demonstrated leadership, intellect, and exemplary character & integrity. Additionally, eligible candidates must:

  • Have completed their undergraduate degree (in any subject area) before the start of the program (August of 2025);
  • Be at least 18 but not yet 29 years of age as of August 1 of their Schwarzman Scholars enrollment year (for the Class of 2025-2026, as of August 1, 2025), and,
  • Be proficient in English*.

The Stanford International Undergraduate Luksic Family Scholarship is one of four Luksic scholarship opportunities at Stanford University.

Financial support was provided to two cohorts of international undergraduate students, with a special preference for incoming students from Chile. This fund was available to undergraduates pursuing their studies in any of the 65 bachelor’s degree programs offered at Stanford.

As with the other Luksic Scholarships at Stanford, admissions and aid decisions are made exclusively and independently by Stanford University.

About the Program

This Fellowship aims to support Chilean or other Latin Americans admitted to the 2-year residential MBA program at Harvard Business School (HBS).

Harvard Business School offers a two-year, full-time MBA program with a general management curriculum focused on real-world practice.

Becoming a student at HBS means joining a global community that propels lifelong learning and career support alongside peers, faculty, and staff who will both challenge you and cheer you on as you find and accelerate your path.

Lifelong impact: Through case method classes, FIELD projects, multimedia simulations, and more, students will exercise the leadership skills they will practice in business and beyond.

Students graduate from HBS not only with increased knowledge but more importantly, with grounding and practice in how to make difficult decisions and what it means to assume leadership in a global environment.

The MBA Class of 2025 application is now open. This year’s application deadlines are:

  • Round 1: Wednesday, September 7, 2022 (Notification: Thursday, December 8, 2022)
  • Round 2: Wednesday, January 4, 2023 (Notification: Wednesday, March 29, 2023)

Students who have been admitted to Harvard Business School (HBS) are eligible for support from this Fellowship. Students do not apply for the Fellowship directly; the Fellowship is awarded as part of the overall HBS financial aid process. After completing the HBS financial aid application and it is determined that you will receive need-based fellowships as part of your financial aid package, you will automatically be considered for the Fellowship. For additional details on how financial need is determined and whether you may be eligible, please visit the Harvard MBA website.

Update (12 December 2022): The last round of financial support available at Harvard Business School was adjudicated to a candidate accepted for the 2022-2023 academic year, after which the Luksic Scholarship will no longer be available for future admissions cycles.

The Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educations – Antofagasta, carried out by Babson College, is supported by the Luksic Scholars Foundation in collaboration with Universidad de Antofagasta. The goal is to link Babson College’s entrepreneurship teaching methodology with topics specifically related to the northern regions of Chile, such as energy and mining, amongst others. This version of the program takes place every year in Antofagasta and is exclusively for professors from Universidad de Antofagasta, U. de la Serena, U. de Atacama, U. Arturo Prat, U. Tarapacá, and Universidad Católica del Norte. Participants are nominated by the faculties of the partner universities and are selected exclusively by Babson College. The implementing partner of this program is the Transfer and Licensing Office of the Universidad de Antofagasta.

Candidates will be awarded scholarships and/or funding directly from the university to which they apply. The university is exclusively responsible for selection and admissions decisions, and does so at its complete discretion and, subject only to the eligibility conditions established by the respective program. The Luksic Scholars Foundation has no participation or influence in the application processes, admissions decisions, or awarding of scholarships.

About the Program

Created in 2007 by Andrónico Luksic, this two-week business study tour is now financed by Banco de Chile with the name “China-Chile Management Immersion Experience (CMIX)”. MBA students from the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management and the Universidad Católica MBA program join forces to develop a new business plan during their two-week journey to Chile and China respectively. In addition to the academic project and lectures on campus, the students visit cultural sites and various companies in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Santiago, Valparaíso, and Concepción. The students are accompanied by two professors as well during their overseas experience. This is now one of the longest running exchange programs between these two countries and aims to continue to develop bridges and networks between these Pacific allies.
