The “Faculty Exchange Luksic Grants” were created in 2013 via three independent scholarships awarded in part by the Luksic Family to the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the University of Notre Dame du Lac, and Boston College, with the purpose of fostering collaboration between these universities through international research, exchanges and conferences. Once the initial cycle of scholarships ended in 2016, they were renewed with the first two universities.
In 2022, with the aim of deepening this collaboration, the University of Notre Dame (ND) and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC|Chile) announced a joint call for the development of collaborative research between the institutions, under the name of “ND-UC|Chile Luksic Scholars Joint Research Awards”. The selection of proposals will be made exclusively by a panel of experts from ND and another panel of experts from UC|Chile.
Candidates will be awarded scholarships and/or funding directly from the university to which they apply. The university is exclusively responsible for selection and admissions decisions, and does so at its complete discretion and, subject only to the eligibility conditions established by the respective program. The Luksic Scholars Foundation has no participation or influence in the application processes, admissions decisions, or awarding of scholarships.
Fernanda Soza, 2018Along with Scott FitzGibbon, a law professor from Boston College, we were working for over a year in the first edition and translation of Padre Alberto Hurtado’s work to the English language. Long hours in the library ended up with an international conference and the launching of the book Social Morality in Boston College.
Being a window to show Hurtado’s thinking- a man that struggled for civil rights and the creation of a fairest world- is a privilege that was only possible due to the generous contribution of the Luksic grant.”
