This initiative allows for the enhancement of MIT\u2019s presence in the region and plays a key role in advancing the Institute\u2019s strategic goals.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"ls-force-justify\">The mission of the MIT Sloan Latin America Office (MSLAO) reflects MIT\u2019s commitment to improving the world through the development of principled, innovative leaders who are prepared to manage\u2014and lead\u2014in a complex global economy.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"ls-force-justify\">The MSLAO supports activities focused on energy, water, and sustainability; innovation and entrepreneurship; and growth and productivity.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a snapshot of some of the activities&nbsp;and highlights of the&nbsp;past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WEBINARS AND VIRTUAL EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"ls-force-justify\">In the beginning of April, the MSLAO moved its regional activities online. Since then, the MSLAO has led or been involved in more than 40 virtual events ranging in topics from the macroeconomic implications of the pandemic to energy and sustainability to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity and education and e-mobility, among many others. MIT faculty and staff made use of their seed funds from last year to conduct research projects in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. In 2020, the MSLAO received the most applications ever for seed funds and awarded six projects funds for research starting in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"456\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luksicscholars.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/mit2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5549\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luksicscholars.org\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/mit2.png 456w, https:\/\/luksicscholars.org\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/mit2-300x178.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><figcaption><br><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>100K LATAM&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"ls-force-justify\">In 2020, the MSLAO in collaboration with the Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Buenos Aires (ITBA) launched the third edition of the 100K LATAM. The entire competition was conducted virtually with over 3,400 entrepreneurs across 16 countries in Latin America from 1,385 startups. On November 17th, the winners of the regional competition were named:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launch &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/wgux2d\/w0ls4w\/c9uh2p\">Eco <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/wgux2d\/w0ls4w\/c9uh2p\" target=\"_blank\">Panplas<\/a> (Brazil)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accelerate &#8211; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/wgux2d\/w0ls4w\/s1vh2p\" target=\"_blank\">EcoScience<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/wgux2d\/w0ls4w\/s1vh2p\"> Lab<\/a> (Mexico)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pitch &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/wgux2d\/w0ls4w\/8twh2p\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BioSyn\u00e1ptica<\/a> (Argentina)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.luksicscholars.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/mit3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5551\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luksicscholars.org\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/mit3.png 922w, https:\/\/luksicscholars.org\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/mit3-300x80.png 300w, https:\/\/luksicscholars.org\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/mit3-768x204.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DATA ANALYTICS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"ls-force-justify\">In the beginning of 2020, the inaugural class of the MIT Sloan and Universidad de Chile Data Analytics Certficate ended a successful first year of the program with a two-week visit to Boston\/Cambridge where they participated in a variety of data analytics-related courses taught by renowned MIT and MIT Sloan faculty.
