This roundtable panel was designed to provide an interdisciplinary space for high- level discussions about current trends in China-Latin American relations, with a focus on recent developments in the areas of academic and cross-cultural cooperation. The event will bring together a diverse set of voices from academia, business and non-governmental sectors, and it will be open to students, youth organizations and networks of young entrepreneurs based in Santiago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This event will take place at a particularly relevant moment in Latin America\u2019s regional and foreign policy. In the last couple of years, elections in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Brazil have significantly reshaped the political outlook of the continent, a trend that is expected to continue in 2019, when national polls will decide the future of Argentina (which hosted the Y20 and G20 Summits in 2018) and Uruguay. Also in 2019, Chile will be hosting the bi-annual APEC Summit. This high-profile event and the multilateral meetings leading to President\u2019s Xi Jinping visit to Santiago in November are expected to reaffirm a decade-long process of increasing Chinese diplomatic presence in the continent and expanding economic ties between South American nations and their most important global trading partner. China\u2019s presence in Latin America today is visible much beyond the areas of trade and diplomacy. In Science and Higher Educational China and Latin America are exploring new paths of collaboration. In this context, the establishment of the Tsinghua University Office in Santiago \u2013 the first of its kind in the continent \u2013 represents a milestone for academic and intercultural exchange between Chinese and Latin American scholars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In light of these recent transformations, this roundtable panel will feature representatives of global universities, young entrepreneurs and academics working in the expanding landscape of China-Latin American relations. The roundtable presentations and subsequent discussions will touch upon broad subjects such as diplomacy, trade and intercultural exchange between China and Latin America in recent years. Special emphasis will be given to recent initiatives in higher education mobility and youth entrepreneurism within the China-Latin American space. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
