From Carbon Pricing to Carbon Capture: Putting Climate Policy Tools and Technologies into Action

December 7, 09:00 - 13:00 Centro de Estudios Avanzados PUCV, Antonio Bellet 314, Providencia
Santiago, Región Metropolitana, Chile

Climate change presents serious threats to the global economy, environment and security, and a significant number of businesses, scientists, NGOs, policymakers, and thought leaders are increasingly calling for two important actions: implementation of carbon pricing and deployment carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). According to the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition,  “A well-designed carbon price is an indispensable part of a strategy for reducing emissions in an efficient way.” According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), CCUS is an essential element of all projected low-cost pathways that limit warming to 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius.

At this event, held in the context of COP25, experts from Columbia’s Center for Global Energy Policy and Chile’s Ministry of Energy, as well as C-level executives from global firms and officials from international agencies, will discuss:
• How to make carbon pricing work most effectively with other climate and economic policies
• Strategies to encourage the successful deployment of carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies
